Hypnotherapy works by communicating with the subconscious mind to change behaviour patterns. In order for the subconscious mind to accept these changes the conscious mind needs to be quietened, hence the relaxed state a therapist induces. Once the subconscious mind is open to change, new patterns of behaviour can be created.
Following a consultation to explore your needs and how best to address them, your therapist will relax you into a trance-like state and begin to ask you questions and give suggestions for goals and changes as well as explore memories. (This is nothing like the stage hypnosis, you will usually be aware of everything going on.)
Often used to help counterproductive behaviour or habits, including smoking and weight issues, but also to treat emotional and psychological problems and the relief of pain.
